[:id]Universitas Khairun (UNKHAIR) merupakan Perguruan Tinggi Negeri di Provinsi Maluku Utara, yang didirikan pada 15 Agustus 1964 dan memperoleh pengakuan dengan dikeluarkannya Surat Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan Tinggi dan Ilmu Pengetahuan No. 100/B/SWT/1965 tertanggal 15 Februari 1965 tentang status dan kedudukan Unkhair dan kemudian diubah statusnya menjadi Perguruan Tinggi Negeri berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Presiden Republik Indonesia No. 18 Tahun 2004 tertanggal 17 Maret 2004.

Seiring dengan berjalannya waktu, UNKHAIR berperan aktif dalam mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan seni melalui penyelenggaraan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Saat ini, UNKHAIR terus berbenah diri dan menjalin kerjasama dengan berbagai institusi baik di dalam maupun luar negeri dalam upaya mewujudkan visi dan misi yang diembannya. Perkembangan UNKHAIR dari waktu ke waktu terus mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan minat jalur masuk penerimaan mahasiswa baru, peningkatan program studi terakreditasi, dan peningkatan jumlah kerjasama institusi.

Pengembangan UNKHAIR diarahkan menuju research-based university dari teaching university membutuhkan perubahan yang mendasar, termasuk perubahan budaya dan etos kerja. Hal ini tentu membutuhkan dukungan kepemimpinan yang kuat dan visioner untuk menciptakan organisasi yang sehat dan iklim kerja yang kondusif bagi pengembangan dan pelaksanaan kegiatan akademik. Disisi lain, tantangan yang paling besar adalah menumbuhkembangkan budaya meneliti di kalangan sivitas akademika sebagai dasar pelaksanaan pendidikan dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat.

Penguatan budaya meneliti yang berkualitas di kalangan sivitas akademika memerlukan langkah-langkah yang sistematis, terencana, dan berkelanjutan. Oleh sebab itu, UNKHAIR mulai sekarang akan mengintensifkan upaya-upaya memperbaiki dan meningkatkan mutu pelaksanaan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi secara terus-menerus di segala bidang kegiatan akademik.

Dalam upaya mewujudkan visi dan misinya, UNKHAIR telah menyusun rencana strategis untuk pengembangan yang dituangkan dalam Dokumen Rencana Strategis Universitas Khairun tahun 2018-2022. Penyusunan Rencana Strategis 2018-2022 ini didasarkan pada evaluasi diri untuk menganalisis kondisi sekarang, sekaligus mengidentifikasi tantangan yang akan dihadapi dalam pengembangan tersebut. Dengan memperhatikan hal-hal tersebut serta pengaruh lingkungan internal dan lingkungan eksternal terhadap upaya pencapaian visi, misi, dan tujuan Unkhair maka sejumlah isu utama yang terangkum dalam isu-isu strategis pendidikan tinggi nasional sebagai berikut: 1) Pemerataan dan Perluasan Akses Pendidikan; 2) Peningkatan Mutu, Relevansi dan Daya Saing; 3) Penguatan Tata Kelola, Akuntabilitas dan Pencitraan Publik; dan 4) Penguatan Sumber Pendanaan.

Arah kebijakan yang ditetapkan dalam Rencana Strategis UNKHAIR Tahun 2018-2022, dijabarkan lebih lanjut melalui Rencana Operasional yang berisi indikasi kegiatan yang akan dilakukan setiap tahun dalam kurun waktu 5 (lima) tahun jangka waktu perencanaan dengan tujuan mencapai perencanaan strategis yang telah dirumuskan. Kegiatan indikasi yang direncanakan dalam Rencana Operasional terdiri dari 2 (dua) kategori yakni rencana kegiatan sekali pakai dan rencana kegiatan yang berkelanjutan/berulang dalam periode perencanaan yang dirumuskan berdasarkan sasaran yang ingin dicapai dalam Rencana Strategis UNKHAIR tahun 2018-2022.

Presidium period (1964-1977)

In this period, as a new college, Unkhair established in partnership with the University of Sam Ratulangi in Manado.
